William Arthur Stillman, 83, returned to his Heavenly Home on April 2, 2015, at his home in Wanamaker. Bill was born on the family farm near Menlo, Kansas, on October 25, 1931, to William and Marie (Gaede) Stillman and was washed in the waters of Holy Baptism on November 15, 1931 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hoxie, Kansas. He confirmed his Christian faith on March 25, 1945 at Immanuel. After graduating St. John's Academy and Junior College in Winfield, Kansas, Bill taught for one year at Zion Lutheran School, New Palestine, Indiana. It was in New Palestine that he met Ellen Moeller, whom he married on August 28, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church.


Bill worked in finance and real estate and was a master woodworker. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, serving many years as Sunday School teacher, president of the congregation, and elder. Bill was also a generous community volunteer, active in the Aid Association for Lutherans, the Exchange Club, Woodworkers Club, and Meals on Wheels. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as an intelligence analyst in the Counter Intelligence Corps.


Most importantly, Bill loved to spend time with his family and was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ellen; four children, daughter Lynn Henry (Neil) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, William (Sandy) of Indianapolis, Martin (Jessee) of Sheridan, Indiana, and John (Caryn) of Plainfield, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Jason, Nathan, Brandon (Jamie), Seth (Amber), Christopher, Melanie (Max), David, Katie, Joshua, Bryan, Samuel, Hannah, and Jeremiah; 6 great-grandchildren, Finneus, Bree, William, Owen, Levi, and Holt; sister-in-law Esther Stillman of Kansas City, Missouri, brother-in-law Johnnie Brace of Laverne, Oklahoma; brother Albert (Annie) of Hoxie, Kansas; sister Lyla Harold (Norbert) of Fredricksburg, Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Garnold, and sister Verbena Brace.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 St. John's Lutheran Church at 6630 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203. Bill will be laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery.
