Obituary for Jason Patrick Young

November 20, 1978 - October 26, 2020
Indianapolis, Indiana | Age 41

Jason Young, age 41, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at his home in Indianapolis, IN after a year-long battle with colorectal cancer, surrounded by close family and friends.

Jason, sometimes known as "babe", "meerkat", "JæBæ" and probably many more nicknames that may or may not be appropriate to mention, was born November 20, 1978 to parents Teresa Palmer and Timothy Young in Lawrenceburg, IN. He was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout and was awarded Life Rank in 1998. He attended South Dearborn High School, and graduated from ITT Technical Institute in Cincinnati, OH receiving his Bachelor of Technology Degree in 2003.

At the time of his death, he was employed by HomeAdvisor, Indianapolis. Previous employers included Angie's List, Indianapolis; Blend Cigar Bar, Indianapolis; Consona Corp, Indianapolis; Eli Lilly & Co., Indianapolis; Honhorst Co., Cincinnati, OH.

Jason's value went beyond his achievements in the way he was able to make deep connections with others. He was a pirate at heart, named Paddle Monkey Tom of the Sacred Heart Crewe upon his first visit to Key West; obligatory collector of pocket knives, he had 41 and some change to be exact-ish thanks to his dad, Tim, gifting them each Christmas; avid cigar and bourbon connoisseur;
Tech junky - I can still hear him now "But does it have bluetooth?".

His brother, Bryan, remembers fond memories growing up together camping, fishing, hiking, shooting guns and riding bikes (not at the same time, thank God ). "I do remember how fearless (or ignorant) Jason was to climb the rock face of Clingmans Dome in Tennessee. I remember stopping at the base and watching him scuttle up over the cliff with no fear. I waited at the bottom, and worried, until he poked his head out of the top and called me a wuss for not coming up, LOL."

Jason's sense of adventure later led him to a love of travel after getting together with his wife, Leslie from Columbus, IN, over 11 years ago. Their adventures took them many memorable places, but Mexico held a special place in his heart. When recently asked "If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?" Without hesitation he responded, "In Playa del Carmen, MX because that is where me and my wife were married." Jason and Leslie were married on June 5, 2014. He loved her deeply and unconditionally and his face would light up anytime she walked into the room.

Jason's spirit and personality filled the room, where ever he was. He had such a positive outlook on life and made friends with anyone, everywhere he went. His laugh was contagious and it filled the hearts of so many. Jason was loving, loyal and someone everyone wanted to know and be around. He was magnetic. This is evident in the deep sorrow and pain in our hearts that his family and friends feel from his passing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leslie Young (Davidson); son, Adam Freeburg; parents, Teresa (Tom) Palmer (Callahan) and Timothy Young; older brother, Bryan (Amy) Young; "dog daughter", Hoosier; nieces, Aubrey and Avary; grandparents, Glenda (Steve) Ashcraft and many, many other family members and friends.

Thank you, Jason, for allowing us all into your life and to experience your love and friendship. You've touched all of our hearts and we will not be the same without you.
